Junior Drama
Ages 4 – 7
Junior Drama combines key performance skills with the fun of learning about theatre.
We look at scripts as well as doing a lot of improvisation; all of these skills help students to build uptheir confidence and begin to enjoy performing. Warm up exercises, tongue twisters and confidence building. We use familiar and new poems to introduce the children to working with words, leading to performing and then acting scenes specially written for this class and age group. All children are invited to be in our twice yearly shows.
No child is ever forced into doing something they are un comfortable with, we want them to enjoy every minute of their stage experience!
Junior Dance
Ages 4 – 7
This is for beginners. Children are introduced to muscial theatre ie dancing to show songs, funky jazz, which may lead to simple street dance. All children are included in our twice yearly.
Students learn key dance skills and styles that help them progress through dance.
Middle Drama
Ages 8 – 12
Different dramatic genres are focused on in these classes. Children start using scripts more. More improvisation work and group work is introduced. These students can take on important parts in our shows. All children are given speaking parts specially written for each individual. They are of course included in our twice yearly shows. We always try to give the children fair opportunities to have a go at large roles. We believe in bringing out the best in every child and never favour. Voice production is introduced in this class both articulation and vocal tone and depth.
Students have the change to work as performers, directors, stage hands with the guidance of our teaching team.
Middle Dance
Ages 8 – 12
Current hits and songs from Musical Theatre are studied in Dance with the routines becoming more expressive and energetic.
We like to introduce all types of dance, including street dance, musical theatre and funky jazz, depending on the show we are working towards. All students are included in our show, which are usually twice a year.
Students work along side their teacher in creating the chorography for their dances. Group work is also under taken within the class and all the ideas are put together to show in our end of term performances.
Senior Performing Arts
13 +
Performing Arts covers Drama, Dance and Singing in one 2 hour class. Students get the chance to have more input in the script and themes chosen for performance. A variety of genres and forms of performance are explored which work along side the secondary school curriculum.
As well as our end of term shows we would like to offer the performing arts students an opportunity to be in and perform the play(s) they are studying in English at school. We intend to produce scenes and excerpts that are poignant and perform them to an invited audience, be it their families, friends or other fellow school students.
Musical Theatre
Juniors and Seniors
This class gives the student the opportunity to sing musical theatre hits, popular music, traditional styles as a group and also in duets and solos.
They are encouraged to sing out freely and enjoy learning new songs. These are often from the show we are working towards but may sometimes be something new and diffierent from another genre so as to bring variety to the class.
